WrestleRama 11

In front of a capacity crowd in Tampa, Florida, the GWA held the 11th installment of its premier event.

In the opening contest, bitter rivals "The Urban Cowboy" Ricky Rodeo and Walter Street faced off in a Texas Strap Match. Street was methodical, precise, and tactical, controlling much of the match, and even hanging Rodeo by the neck off the top rope at one point. (Rodeo luckily landed a kick to Street's throat, which made him release the strap.) However, the tide soon turned, and as momentum swung his way Rodeo nailed Street with an opportunistic Rodeo Driver and never looked back. He whipped the straight-laced opponent mercilessly, pumping up the crowd, then tied him to a ringpost; Rodeo then nailed his prone opponent with a leaping dropkick to the chest and a full head of steam splash, both driving Street against the unforgiving post. Rodeo had the match in hand when he landed another Rodeo Driver onto a steel chair and got the pin, but to finish his rival off, Rodeo hog-tied him with the strap, beat on him some more, and dragged him off backstage.

Tim Crush and Justin Shiflet battled in a solid contest, but a much shorter one...less than ten minutes long. Crush kept synching in the ankle lock/half crab, but the Marine kept battling out. Crush went to the well at the wrong time however; he went for the choke slam, but Shiflet decided to answer with a try of his own...and a quick leg sweep jarred Crush's vertical base long enough to let Shiflet execute and score the pin. Expect more from these two in the future.

Riding a strong wave of success, newcomer and fan favorite Gary Phillips got his first shot at a GWA title as he faced new US Champion Robert Matthews. Matthews, the battered and bruised teammate-turned-rival of The Don (who caused his dark transformation), won the title back from The Don after Scott Love interfered in their title match. However, the "Superstar" was no match for the charismatic Phillips, as "The Golden Boy" won the title with relative ease. After about 6 minutes, Phillips had German suplexed Matthews three times in succession, setting up the Dragon Suplex known as the Spotlight, which led to the pin and the new US Champ.
After the match, the tron lit up again and revealed the dark figure haunting Robert Matthews was the veteran, the Dark One....the mega-star known only as Reaper!

The Don vs. Scott Love in a Hell in the Cell. Simply put, a brutal beating from all angles. Love did manage to bloody up The Don, but much of the match was controlled by the Mafioso. The Don took out weeks of frustration on the powerless member of Team BMX, ultimately Spike Piledriving him off the top rope through two stacked tables, before finally going for and getting the pin, and perhaps ending this dark saga.

Tag Team Titles: Whaley/Knight vs. Donaldson/Gipson vs. Styles/Gates vs. LCWC, elimination match. LCWC eliminate Styles/Gates; Whaley/Knight elim. D/G (Whaley beats Donaldson with Death Valley Driver); W/K beat LCWC to win titles (Whaley hits Williamson with Buff Blockbuster, Knight with the pin).

IC Title: Ogles vs. Wessels: Ogles wins by Evenflow DDT.

Andrew Ryder vs. Marc Thompson: Thompson connects with "The Stroke" to pin.

Main Event
World Heavyweight Title
Aubrey Scott vs. David Angel...long match with multiple finishing moves. Scott lands on his feet as he flips out of an attempt at the Angel Wings finisher (Razor's Edge), then catches Angel from behind with a gut-wrench powerbomb to set up the Tombstone Piledriver for the win. Afterwards, a masked man spears the exhausted Scott, then taunts him with the GWA World Heavyweight Title belt, before showboating with it on the ropes. The assassin reveals himself to be "MVP" Alex Watson, Scott's long time arch rival. It looks like another feud may very well be heating up, and taking center stage...that wraps it up from WrestleRama.

Until next time....take care everybody!
